Favorite smell

My favorite smell in the whole wide world is one that takes me back to a memory.

Sometimes those scents are fleeting and it takes a moment to place them. Other times you can close your eyes and transport yourself to another time and place.

Just a simple whiff can bring me back to my first trip to NYC, my grandmother's kitchen, exploring the woods on a summer day when we were kids.

Coconut will always remind me of Barbados. Gardenias of Tahiti. Lemon of my grandfather, Baba. Birdseed, of my first job. Ralph Lauren cologne, of my father, and Oil of Olay, my mother.

It’s called “the emotion of scent”.
